CDC declines to join charter debate

The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) has declined to join the Election Commission’s charter debate, saying its role is to explain the constitution to the public, not to argue over it.

CDC chairman Meechai Ruchupan said Wednesday that he believes people are more interested in content than rhetoric.
He denied that CDC spokesman Amorn Wanitwiwat had agreed to face off with the New Democracy Movement, saying it was a misunderstanding because the commission would not debate with anyone.
Meechai dismissed concern that the CDC’s draft would be rejected in the referendum, saying such reports had started ever since the CDC began working on it.
