Thailand has suffered its first Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) hack affecting a total of 21 ATMs in Bangkok and other provinces resulting in stolen cash totalling more than Bt12 million while another 200 ATMs are suspected to be infected with computer vir

Police said the incident at Government Savings Bank (GSB)’s ATMs earlier this month is similar to those in Taiwan and Malaysia where money was stolen from ATMs after malwares were used to trick the affected ATMs to release cash.
GSB Tuesday said it had temporarily shut down more than 3,000 ATMs in six provinces after many ATMs were found to have been infected while the bank sought technical help from NCR, the vendor of these ATMs, to take preventive and other actions.
