FM orders worldwide catalogue of Thai artefacts
The Foreign Affairs Ministry has ordered all embassies and consulates to compile detailed lists of Thai artefacts displayed around the world for submission to the Ministry of Culture’s Fine Arts Department.
Foreign Ministry Department of Information director-general Sek Wannamethee said yesterday the move followed his discussion last week with Fine Arts Department director-general Anan Chuchote, in which Anan ask for the cooperation of overseas embassies and consulates.
The catalogue will include Thai artefacts on display at museums, educational, arts and archaeology institutions, and in personal collections across the world.
Noting that compiling the list would take time, Sek said his ministry had instructed diplomatic staff to verify artefacts’ details including sources of origin and take photographs to contribute to a database that authorities would use in the future.
