NLA approves new education loan bill

The National Legislative Assembly Friday approved a new education loan bill in principle.

The bill will replace the existing education loan act of 1998.
The bill was passed in the first reading with 141 to 1 votes and four NLA members abstained.
The NLA set up a 15-member committee to vet the bill.
The bill will set up a sub-committee, which will be headed by the comptroller general, to be in charge of following up on loan receivers to ensure that they will repay their debt after their graduation.
