Two executives show up to face charges over ‘zero-dollar’ tours

Executives of Royal Gems International Co and Fu-an Travel Co surrendered to police Thursday in response to arrest warrants for their alleged role in a “zero-dollar tour” network, which is deemed illegal and damaging to the Thai tourism industry.

Royal Gems executive Saithip Rungrojrangsi and Fu-an executive Winij Chanmanee showed up at Bangkok’s Phya Thai Police Station along with their lawyers to acknowledge the charges. The charges are conspiring in secret activities with unlawful intention; conspiring to cause damage to the local tourism industry; and violating the Anti-Money Laundering law. The suspects maintained their innocence throughout the two-hour-long interrogation.
Another suspect, Thongchai Rungrojrangsi, an executive with OA Transport Co, did not show up Thursday as he is reportedly travelling overseas.
