Junta warning over fake commemoratives notes

The National Council for Peace and Order Sunday warned members of the public not to buy “gold” commemorative bank notes, saying the government has not issued them.

Colonel Piyapong Klinphan, an NCPO spokesman, said the authorities had learned that the commemorative notes were made in China by some opportunists to reap benefits from the sorrow of Thais.
The notes were printed in a gold colour and have been distributed for Bt1,000 each.
“The people must not buy the notes. It’s an act of advantage-taking on Thais,” the spokesman said.
He said the notes had been spread in Chiang Mai and the NCPO had instructed agencies concerned to take action against those behind their distribution.
