400 mourners claim free lodgings in sport building over nine-day period

About 400 people from around the country have taken advantage of free accommodation at Bangkok’s Thai-Japan Youth Centre’s Kilawet Sport Building in the past nine days. Sunday saw a peak number of 154 lodgers at the centre, a source reported yesterday.

The centre, which has security guards at all entrances, opened its doors on October 16 and will continue to serve people coming to Bangkok to pay respects to the King throughout a 100-day mourning period. It can cater for up to 600 lodgers at a time, with sleeping bags being sent to be laundered each day.
