
According to the Italian National Institute for Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV), it was a 6.1-magnitude quake. The Helmholtz research centre estimated it of 6.5 magnitude.
Italy's civil defence agency, the Protezione Civile, says it struck between the provinces of Perugia and Macerata, in the same mountain area where strong earthquakes struck on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Protezione Civile says it is checking for damages.
