Govt, Alibaba sign deal to help SMEs succeed in ecommerce

The Commerce Ministry and Alibaba Group have signed a letter of intent that will see Thailand and Alibaba cooperate on initiatives to develop ecommerce through providing training to small and mediumsized enterprises and individuals, and exploring ways to enhance the country’s logistics capabilities.

At the invitation of Alibaba, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak led a delegation comprising senior government officials and representatives of the private sector to Alibaba’s headquarters in Hangzhou, China, where Commerce Ministry permanent secretary Wiboonlasana Ruamraksathe Ruamraksa and Alibaba Group president Michael Evans signed the agreement.
The agreement covers four key areas, the first of which involves offering ecommerce training to 30,000 Thai SMEs to aid their access to both domestic and international ecommerce platforms. Alibaba and its majorityowned ecommerce platform in Southeast Asia, Lazada Group, will help provide the training.
