PM hopes people are happy and healthy

PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha and other key figures yesterday extended New Year wishes to the public.

Prayut said he hoped people would be happy and healthy and live life consciously, in a national address he read out after midnight.
“I wish all my Thai compatriots to be happy, prosperous and healthy. May you have strong determination and be free from any harm, and your wishes granted. You should serve as an important force in helping move our country forward. Happy New Year 2017,” he said.
The premier said that on behalf of the government he would like to invite Thais all over the country to wish for the divine beings to bless His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and other members of the Royal Family – to be happy, healthy and live long.
Prayut said the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej was a great loss for the country in this past year. He called on Thais to follow the good example set by the late monarch.
Earlier, the government leader sent good wishes to the media. In a hand-written New Year card, he said: “I wish the press and the media to be successful, safe and healthy. Please work in collaboration with the government for our nation in 2017 and for years to come.”
Meanwhile, former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra of the Pheu Thai Party also sent good New Year wishes, saying she wanted to see happiness and smiles return for Thais.
She extended her warm regards to farmers and traders, saying she hoped that their crops get higher prices and make them more money.
Besides wishing people happiness and success, former premier and Democrat Party chief adviser Chuan Leekpai called on people to study and apply the teachings of the late King in their daily life. Chuan asked people to follow the exemplary path of King Bhumibol, who passed away in October after devoting himself to the country in his globally recognised 70-year reign.
“If all parties adhere to and follow the revered late monarch’s royal guidance, [disastrous] situations can be prevented and altered,” he said.
He also cited the King’s teaching on December 5, 2010, as an example. The King said: “All Thais should try to clearly understand their own duty and intend to perform their duties at their best without carelessness and always with consciousness.”
Bangkok’s new Governor Aswin Kwanmuang, in his New Year message, said: “May the Triple Gems and all the power that you all revere grant state officers, the City Hall personnel, and all the people mental and physical health and success.”
He called for unity among the people to develop the country. Aswin also took the opportunity to make resolutions and promise to achieve his team’s administrative goals.
