PRIME MINISTER General Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday debuted his new song, “Saphan”, or “Bridge”, to provide moral support to the Cabinet as it prepares for its workload this year.

The bridge in Prayut’s lyrics is a metaphor for the means to overcome obstacles and help the country to achieve stability, prosperity and sustainability.
“It might take long to fight for you, my beloved land,” the lyrics read. “Please know that my heart stays determined no matter how long it will take.”
Prayut reportedly wrote the lyrics and Wichian Tantipimonphan and Major Surachai Thawinprai composed the music. The song, which was sung by Sgt-Major Pongsathorn Phorchit, was released by Government House before yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.
Prayut said he wanted the song to convey his thoughts that this year is a critical year, under which the country is moving towards the democracy that everyone favours.

He said civil servants in particular should help to form bridges over the metaphorical riverbanks so that people could cross over the “strong current”.
People should not crowd together on one particular bridge as they are prone to step on each other, he added.
“I want people to act as bridges like I have done. Do not crowd on one bridge with me because it could collapse,” Prayut said, while asking officials to help him bear the burden.
