THE heavy rains expected to hit Bangkok and surrounding areas over the next three days has forced the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to instruct officials to implement a nine-step flood-prevention action plan in a move to minimise damage and public inconvenience.

BMA Governor Pol General Aswin Kwanmuang on Saturday said he had instructed the Department of Drainage and Sewerage and 50 district offices to implement the action plan. This includes rainfall updates, the preparation of flood-alleviating equipment such as pumps, lowering water levels at canals and pump station ponds, and keeping related BMA units informed of the situation.
