Meechai says media control bill appears unconstitutional

Charter drafter chairman Meechai Ruchupan said Tuesday that the proposed media reform bill by media reform panel of National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) is deemed violating the referendum-endorsed Constitution.
“In the charter that passed the referendum August last year, it stipulates that press must have freedom in their professions and their right and freedom must be protected," Meechai said.
He added that the new charter also promote the principle of media self regulation otherwise media could be interfered by other professions.
He said in principle, any laws issuance must comply with the constitution.
