The “Bangkok International Symposium on Trade Remedies” will bring together interdisciplinary groups of investigators and users of anti-dumping and countervailing measures and safeguards as well as interested parties from Thailand and major trading partners around the world.
Duangporn Rodphaya, director-general of the Commerce Ministry’s Foreign Trade Department, said that recognising the crucial role of remedy measures in maintaining the balance between providing protection to domestic industries from unfair trade practices (such as dumping or subsidies) and promoting trade liberalisation, the symposium would provide insights and recommendations for the proper imposition of such measures.
The symposium will be presided over by the vice minister of commerce, Winichai Chaemchaeng, and will take place at Centara Grand at CentralWorld Hotel.
The two-day event will feature panel discussions and workshops on trade remedies, which will allow the exchange of experiences on investigation procedures between the authorities from Thailand and 14 major trading partners, namely Australia, Brazil, China, the European Union, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and Asean members states Brunei, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.
The forum is also open for the private sector to participate in and share its perspectives on the imposition of trade remedy measures.
