Prawit insists reconciliation talks must exclude amnesty deal

Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, head of the government-initiated reconciliation scheme, has brushed aside Pheu Thai Party’s suggestion that reconciliation talks should not exclude the amnesty deal.

Prawit said on Wednesday any proposals should be made in concert with the committee soliciting opinions, headed by defence permanent secretary General Chaichan Changmongkol.
“But anyway I have already said that the reconciliation would not involve granting amnesty,” Prawit said.
On Monday, the Pheu Thai Party accepted the Defence Ministry’s invitation to the reconciliation talks, but members suggested that discussions be inclusive and not limited to the 10 points tabled by the junta, adding that amnesty should be one possible topic.
