Preparations being made for royal crematorium

Preparations are being made for the construction of the elaborate royal crematorium for the late and much-beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej in Bangkok’s Sanam Luang area.

A caravan of trucks carrying metal frames and pillars left a factory in Ayutthaya’s Bang Pahan district for the royal grounds at 4.49pm Wednesday and many people raised their hands in a “wai” in respect to the monarch. King Rama IX passed away on October 13, 2016.
The trucks will have to take a pit stop at the Koh Kerd Arts Centre until 9pm before they are allowed on the road. They are expected to reach Sanam Luang later tonight.
Skilled craftsmen will begin working on the royal crematorium, which will be 60 metres wide and 60m long, once a prayers ritual for the late King is completed in late March or early April.
