26 Cambodian illegal immigrants arrested in Sakaew

Troops and immigration police Sunday rounded up 26 Cambodians who tried to sneak across the border into Thailand.

So far, immigration police and troops have arrested 86 Cambodians who tried to sneak into the kingdom since March 5 after the authorities stepped up patrols at the borderline to prevent fugitive former Dhammakaya abbot Phra Dhammachayo from fleeing the kingdom.
The 26 Cambodians were arrested in two groups Sunday morning.
The first group was arrested at the borderline behind the Benchawan Market in Ban Dong Ngu village in Tambon Parai in Aranayaprathet district.
The joint team of troops and immigration police found 10 men and four women crossing the border into Thailand at the spot and took them for questioning at the 1201st Ranger company.
Later on, the officials arrested three Cambodian men, seven women, and two boys at the borderline about 50 metres away from the first spot. They were taken for questioning at the same ranger company.
Sakaew immigration police chief Pol Lt Col Benjapol Rodsawat said the 86 Cambodians are 43 men, 39 women, three boys and one girl. He said the Cambodians have been sent back to Cambodian immigration officials at the Poipet checkpoint.
