New .02 blood alcohol limited for youngest drivers

Drivers aged 20 and younger will be regarded as drunk driving if their blood alcohol content is 20 milligrams instead of the 50mg limit for older drivers.

Colonel Athisit Chainuwat, deputy government spokesman, said the Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Transport Department proposal to amend its road safety directive to reduce the BAC for young drivers from 50mg to 20mg.
The new limit, once announced in the Royal Gazette, will also be applied to drivers without a licence and those driving on a temporary licence, Athisit added.
The BAC can be measured with a breathalyser or by analysing a blood sample. It is measured by the number of grams of alcohol in 100 millimetres of blood.
