Soldiers help woman deliver child in taxi following traffic congestion

A taxi taking an immigrant pregnant woman to a hospital was caught in traffic in front of a military base on Tuesday, prompting soldiers to help deliver her child in the vehicle.

The taxi driven by Anan Boonlon, 34, was caught in traffic in front of the Armed Forces Security Centre at 7am when the woman began to deliver the baby.
The driver pulled over and called for help from soldiers at a checkpoint, who helped the woman deliver her daughter.
The woman was identified only as Mazaw, 40, and she did not have an identification card. She and her baby were rushed to the Bhumibol Hospital and declared safe.
The taxi driver said the woman and her two relatives called his taxi in front of Soi Indra 8 asking to be taken to Ratchavithi Hospital but traffic was moving at crawl at the Bang Khen roundabout. When they reached the front of the Armed Forces Security Centre, the woman said she could no longer wait.
The commander of the centre, Lt-General Thanakiart Chonchuenchob, gave the woman an unspecified sum of money and coordinated an ambulance to take her to Bhumibol Hospital.
