Buses banned travelling to Doi Suthep

Buses will be banned from going up to the Doi Suthep mountaintop during the long Songkran holidays from Wednesday until Tuesday, Chiang Mai traffic police said.

Police said a lot of tourists would visit Phra That Doi Suthep Temple during the period so buses would aggravate traffic conditions on the road to the attraction.
Tourists who arrive in the area on buses must rent four-wheel passenger vehicles or pickups modified as passenger vehicles in front of Chiang Mai University and Chiang Mai Zoo before travelling to Doi Suthep.
Police said personal vehicles would be allowed to go up the mountain from 6am to 9am and 12pm to 3pm, and descend the mountain from 9am to 12pm and 3pm to 6pm during the holiday period.
