Mae Hong Son officials rally behind embattled governor

Many local officials offered moral support on Thursday to Mae Hong Son Governor Suebsak Iamwichan, who has been named in a minor-prostitution scandal.

Suebsak has denied buying sex from minors.
“Absolutely, I have never done such a thing. The scandal has hurt my reputation and my family’s,” he said.
The chiefs of several local government agencies yesterday gave him flowers to support him as he was fighting the allegations.
The Interior Ministry has launched a probe against Suebsak.
A source said underage hilltribe girls were still being seen on a walking street in Mae Hong Son’s Pai district working as prostitutes.
During Thursday’s meeting with local officials, Suebsak promised to tackle human trafficking in his province.
