Thunderstorms hit four villages in Chiang Mai’s Mae Wang district Monday night, damaging 150 houses, the district chief reported on Tuesday.

Suthin Channgam said the storms hit Ban Thung Luang, Ban Mae Moot, Ban Sobwin and Ban Huaypong villages over a roughly 20-minute period.
Thana Nualplod, an official of the Chiang Mai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, said the office had undertaken a survey and found that 2,301 families in 18 districts of Chiang Mai had been affected by earlier storms in the province on May 4 and 5.
Two people were killed in the storms during the two-day period, he added.
