Dam in Chiang Mai ‘hardly affected’ by quake on Saturday night

A moderate earthquake that struck the far North late on Saturday night did not threaten a nearby dam, a senior irrigation official said on Sunday.

Chanuwat Lertsilpcharoen, the director of Irrigation Office 1, said a quake measuring 4.0 magnitude shook Mai Suai district in Chiang Rai at 10pm on Saturday night.
“Its impact on the Mae Ngad Dam in neighbouring Chiang Mai province was just 1 per cent. At this level, we can say the quake hardly affected the dam. Its structure is well safe,” he said.
