Thaksin has no link with city blasts suspect: Yingluck

Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Friday dismissed speculation that her elder brother Thaksin, who has lived in self-exile overseas since 2008, was linked to a suspect allegedly involved in six bombs in Bangkok, after a wall clock with Thaksin’s image was found in the suspect’s house.

Authorities on Wednesday arrested and identified the suspect as Wattana Pummares, 61, who previously worked for the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand as an engineer. He is being detained by the military.
Yingluck said that it was normal for a former prime minister to have admirers. But she maintained that Thaksin would not encourage the use of violence by his supporters.
“I believe that he [Thaksin] has never supported use of violence. Also, the Pheu Thai Party already has condemned those responsible for such acts [planting bombs],” she said.
Yingluck was speaking to reporters after arriving at the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders, to attend a hearing on accusations that she was negligent in connection with her government’s corruption-plagued rice pledging scheme.
