Prayut said officials would focus on fast drainage of floodwater to minimize impacts on people. Other measures are also being prepared in the wake of widespread flooding, he said.
The Interior Ministry has issued instructions to the governors of 15 north and northeastern provinces to have officials monitor situation and ensure timely aid for flood victims.
The PM said Thailand must improve on preventing flood damage. He advocated prevention and preparation measures, including a campaign against forestland encroachment and proper construction of homes in flood-prone areas.
