The Interior Ministry has encouraged people to wear “polite” and light-blue attire to mark the birthday of HM Queen Sirikit, the mother of the current monarch.

The queen will turn 85 on Saturday, August 12. She was born on a Friday, the day associated with the colour blue.
The Interior Ministry will organise several rituals to celebrate her birthday. Alms-giving ceremonies will take place on Saturday morning at provincial halls across the country in her honour.
People can also sign their birthday wishes for her at provincial halls.
At 7.19pm, there will be candle-lit ritual in her honour. This event will be televised.
