Grandma busted on Phuket with carload of ganja

A 60-year-old grandmother was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly attempting to smuggle Bt500,000 worth of marijuana from Phang Nga to Phuket.

Soldiers and police manning a checkpoint on Thep Kasattree Road in Thalang district’s Tambon Maikhao on Phuket allegedly found the drug stashed in three places in a car carrying Jaree Chuemkaew.
The driver, Boonruan Saenchan, 44, was also arrested.
Jaree’s daughter, Thongphan Chuemkaew, 30, and three-year-old grandson were also in the vehicle, but police decided they had no knowledge of the ganja and had been convinced they were merely going on a family road trip.
The vehicle search initially turned up 16 blocks of marijuana in the spare-tyre compartment, then four more under the hood, and finally another four inside the rear spoiler.
Police said Boonruan admitted that he and Jaree had been hired – by a man he knew only as Tum – to ferry the cannabis from Phang Nga’s Tappud district to a housing estate in Thalang. They were to be paid Bt10,000.
