Woman riding home for Mother’s Day killed in accident

A woman who was riding pillion with her husband was killed after being hit by a vehicle early Saturday. The couple were on their way from Bangkok to Chiang Mai for Mother’s Day.

Police said the accident happened shortly before 5am on Phaholyothin Road in front of the Saraburi Sports Stadium.
The victim was identified as Pikul Jaita, 33, a construction worker of Italian Thai Development at its Green Line project in Bangkok.
Her husband, Apinan Buakhiew, 35, who rode the motorcycle was also injured.
Apinan said he and his wife worked for the Green Line project and his wife wanted to return home for the long weekend. He wanted to travel on Saturday morning but his wife was keen to leave on Friday evening to be able to reach home in time to pay her respects to her mother on Mother’s Day.
Apinan said his motorcycle was hit by a vehicle, which fled the scene. He said he did not see what kind of vehicle it was or its licence plate.
His wife died of a broken neck and skull damage.
