Near miss for elderly Lampang women as tree crushes home

Two elderly women in Lampang narrowly escaped injury or worse early Friday morning when a 10-metre-tall palm tree fell on their home during a heavy rainstorm.

The tree, a 50-centimetre-diameter Palmyra palm, collapsed on the one-storey house in Ban San Boonreung (Moo 4), Hang Chat district, at about 4.30am.
Boonchan Thamlangka, 70, and her mother Fong Thamlangka, 95, were asleep at the time.
Tambon Pong Yang Kok Mayor Yai Haokhamfoo was there with other officials and soldiers at 7am to inspect the damage, remove the tree and begin repairs.
