Commissioner Pol Lt-General Charnthep Selavej has ordered all stations to strictly enforce the time ban on trucks in order to prevent traffic congestion from worsening.
Pol Maj-General Jiraphat Phumijit, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said if truckers continue to enter inner Bangkok during the banned hours, the bureau may consider also imposing a truck ban on certain routes.
Trucks with 10 or more wheels are banned from inner Bangkok from 6am to 10am and from 3pm to 9 pm. Six-wheel trucks are banned from inner Bangkok from 6am to 9am and from 4pm to 8pm.
Violators are subject to a fine of Bt1,000.
All trucks are also banned from using the aged Krung Thon Bridge, Jiraphat added.
