Officials foil attempt to smuggle 118,000 meth pills from Laos

Soldiers, police and Interior Ministry officials intercepted an attempt to smuggle 118,000 methamphetamine pills from Laos through Ubon Ratchathani late Monday night.

Officials seized a car containing the drugs following a chase on Khemmaraj-Khong Chiam Road, which started in Tambon Khemmaraj in Khemmaraj district at 11.40pm.
Authorities set up a road checkpoint at the Muang Mai Intersection on the Khemmaraj-Khoing Chiam Road and spotted a black Chevrolet approaching, which they signalled to stop, and gave chase when it sped off.
When the car reached a curve in Moo 13 village in Natal district’s Tambon Palan, it lost control and plunged into a paddy field. The driver escaped on foot into the darkness.
