Driver dies as pick-up hits power pole
A pick-up truck lost control and smashed into a power pole after allegedly being driven at high speed during early-morning rain in Phuket.
The accident resulted in one death and critically injured another person.
The accident occurred just after midnight this morning, at the intersection of Thepkasattri Road in front Wat Phra Nang Sang. The white pick-up truck was driven by Chatri Thongjit, 31, who died at the scene.
A passenger, Thunyaporn Ounmai, remains in Thalang Hospital in a critical condition.
Police are checking CCTV footage to confirm the cause of the accident, but they said the force of the impact was so great that the pick-up wrapped itself around the power pole, with the engine being dislodged from the wreckage.
