Uttaradit governor Sathienpong Maksiri visited the only village on an island in Sirikit Dam's reservoir on Tuesday morning to assist in handing out blankets and jackets to 148 families.

The Ban Huay Ta in Tambon Nang Phaya in Tha Pla district is the only community living on the island in the middle of the dam.
The provincial administration was concerned that the poor residents of the island community would be suffering because of the cold spell so it sought help from the 35th Army Circle, the Pichai Dab Hak Hospital and other government agencies to hand out blankets, winter clothes and food to the villagers.
A team of doctors also visited the island to provide medical checks for the villagers.
The village can only be accessed by a two-hour boat trip.
