Princess Sirindhorn ‘seeds’ anti-drug project in South

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on Wednesday sent vegetable seeds to 5,011 families in the southern border provinces.

It had been found that people there believed they could curb illegal drug use if they were able to earn a living by cultivating vegetables.
Fourth Army Area Commander Lt Gen Piyawat Nakwanit chaired a ceremony at a centre dedicated to drug-abuse prevention at the headquarters of Internal Security Operations Command Area 4.
The Princess had visited the South in September and asked the Chaipattana Foundation to help volunteers of the Pracha Rath Lannanbaru anti-drug project.
The centre surveyed nearly 24,000 people involved with the project in 34 districts of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat provinces and four districts of Songkhla and learned they could benefit from growing vegetables.
