Footballer, 12, may miss chance to train in England as mother sought

A young footballer in Songkhla may miss a once-in-a-lifetime chance to train in England after his coach failed to locate his mother, who needs to sign a consent document.

Ahmed Kortem, 33, the coach and owner of ADZ Academy in Songkhla's Sadao district, said there were only three days left to locate the mother of Chaisak Thongchan to authorise a consent document so that his passport could be issued in time for his trip to England.

Chaisak, 12, a fifth grader at Sangwalwit 2 School in Tambon Padang Bezar in Sadao, has been selected as one of 25 children from five southern border provinces to train in England.

But Chaisak was abandoned by both parents, who have divorced, and lives with a relative of his father.
Ahmed said the father, who lives in Khon Kaen, had already signed the consent form, but he had failed to locate the mother, Saowapha Himthong, a resident of Surat Thani.
He said only three days were left and the boy could miss his chance to join the football academy in England.
