Man nabbed over assault of woman metres from Bangkok police HQ

Police on Friday caught a man alleged to have attacked a woman from behind just metres from the National Police headquarters in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district.

Police identified him as a 39-year-old man from Phitsanulok after arresting him at Hua Lamphong train station.
The man was seen in CCTV footage using a stick to attack the young woman on Wednesday.
The footage – uploaded by the woman’s mother to Facebook – showed the woman running for her life to the police HQ where an officer helped her. She suffered minor injuries to her arm and neck and has been discharged from hospital.
Police said that the man appeared to be mentally ill in their initial questioning of him and denied being involved in the attack. Police will further interrogate him and send him to hospital for tests.
Pathumwan District Court today issued an arrest warrant against him following publication of his photo captured from the footage. The warrant is for charges of physical assault causing both physical and emotional wounds to the victim.
