Phuket airport runways closing for maintenance, delays expected

Several runways and taxiways at Phuket International Airport are to be closed for six hours a day from April 27-May 8 for cleaning and maintenance.

Airport director Petch Chancharoen said on Thursday the closures would last from 12.30am-6.30am each day.
Taxiway P will also be closed for repairs from April 30-May 3, daily from 6.30am-12.30pm.
The planned repairs and cleaning are part of the airport’s annual operations plan under ICAO standards.
But they will affect some flights and will add to inconveniences passengers have been experiencing recently.
Airport officials met last month with representatives of airlines, the Phuket Air Traffic Control Centre, ground service companies and others to discuss ways of minimising impacts on flights and passengers.
“We apologise for the inconvenience,” Petch said. “The next maintenance periods will be in July and September and we will coordinate with all sections involved to prepare the most effective services. Passenger safety is the priority.”
