One dead, one injured in Ayutthaya car crash

The drive of a car was killed and his female passenger severely injured when his vehicle fell into the ditch in the middle of a highway in Ayutthaya and hit a tree.

The Muang Ayutthaya police station was alerted of the accident at 10pm Wednesday on the Bangkok-bound Asia Highway in Tambon Hantra of Ayutthaya's Muang district.
The driver was identified as Panaithat Nutalai, 29, and his passenger as Sornsuda Klongsombat, 25.
The impact of the crash caused Panithat's right leg to be torn off and hurled into the tree, where it became wedged on a branch. His right arm was also almost torn off.
The injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital.
A witness, Supachai Chaobanfang, 45, who was travelling behind the car, said he saw the vehicle gather speed as it crossed from the middle lane to the right lane. Blocked by a truck ahead, the car crashed into the barrier then tumbled into the ditch before hitting the tree.
