Saen Saeb Canal gets traffic sign test in effort to reduce boat accidents

The Harbour Department will install traffic signs and lights on the Saen Saeb Canal as a pilot project to try to prevent boat accidents, a deputy department chief said on Wednesday.

Major marine transportation routes would see traffic signs and lights installed using Bt2 million from the 2019 fiscal year’s budget, said Nut Jubjai, deputy director-general of the Harbour Department.
The project was initiated by Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, who wanted to have warning signs installed at major piers and transport routes to prevent boat accidents.
Signs could go up starting in October or November, with the department working with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the concessionaire of the Saen Saeb shuttle boat service, the Family Transport (2002) Co Ltd.
If the test is successful, it would be expanded to other routes, Nut added.
