Thai police said the suspect, Muhammad Sayudi bin Navi (not official spelling), 38, a resident of Malaysia&#39;s Kelantan state, jumped into the river at 8.30pm on Monday night at the pier linking Narathiwat and Kelantan in Sungai Kolok district.

He jumped after Thai police found heroin inside a straw and a meth pill in his wallet at the pier checkpoint. 
Thai police alerted Kelantan officials and a joint team was dispatched to search for the body. After an hours-long effort, officials of the two countries called off the search on Monday night due to the darkness and a strong river current. 
The search resumed on Tuesday morning. 
The Malaysian had a Thai wife, Ropiya Kaseng, 40, who is serving a jail term in Narathiwat Prison on a drug conviction.

Thai and Malaysian officials have jointly resumed a search for the body of a Malaysian drug suspect who jumped into the Sungai Kolok River to escape an arrest on Monday night after a small amount of drugs were found on him.
