Phu Chi Fa dazzles thousands with nature’s seasonal treats

Tourists are flocking in large numbers to Phu Chi Fa to see the spectacular “sea of mist”, which this year is expected to last until February.

At this time of the year, Phu Chi Fah National Park attracts as many as 1,500 tourists daily. They visit the cliff in Chiang Rai early in the day to catch a glimpse of sun as it rises over the mountains shrouded by fog.
The temperature on Sunday morning was 11 degrees Celsius.
Apawadee Jittichai, a tourist from Kanchanaburi province, said she felt it was a bit chilly on Sunday morning, but she was dazzled by the scenery, especially when she saw the sun shine its light over the foggy mountains. “I have taken many good shots. I will show them to people at my office,” Apawadee said.
A cool breeze has wrapped Phu Chi Fa a bit late this year compared to previous years, but the breeze and the fog are expected to last longer until February, said Banthoeng Kreuwong, a resort operator and president of a local tourism group – Northern Thailand Community Based Tourism Association.
Also, at this time of the year the mountains are covered in pink from the blooming wild Himalayan cherry trees (Pha Ya Sua Krong), he said.
