Royal pardon for inmates takes effect
A royal decree to grant royal pardons for inmates to mark the royal coronation took effect on Saturday, Corrections Department director general Narat Sawetanan said.
Narat said the department has 120 days to consider inmates to be eligible for the royal pardon.
The inmates will be divided into two groups. The first group of inmates will be “early released” and the second group will see their term reduced, he said.
The “early released” inmates will be those with jail terms less than one year, inmates with serous ailments and elderly inmates, Narat added.
