Ailing elderly man killed in Ang Thong house fire, three others injured

A helpless elderly man was killed and three family members injured in a fire that engulfed his house in Ang Thong’s Pa Mok district on Tuesday night.

The Pa Mok police station was alerted of the fire in Moo 6 village in Tambon Rong Chang at 10.30pm and police along with fire engines from several local administrations rushed to the scene.
Fire fighters took about an hour to put out the blaze that engulfed the second floor of the two-storey house.
Fire fighters later found the charred body of Jiad Chophaka, 80.
Jiad’s wife Boonliam Sudjai, 75, was injured along with her daughter, Phakjira Steward, 54, and her grandson, Pirayut Payukpong, 34.
Boonliam’s other children told police that Phakjira and her son, Pirayut, braved the flames to rescue Booonliam from the second floor but they could not save Jiad.
The children said their parents lived on the second floor. While they were watching TV on the ground floor, they heard an explosion and smelled smoke. Phakjira and Pirayut rushed upstairs and found Boonliam trapped. They rushed in to save her but were unable to reach the bedroom and remove the father from his bed.
Police have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
