Manhunt launched for killers of Pattani mute couple

Manhunt launched for killers of Pattani mute couple

Police have identified one of four suspects who allegedly shot dead a mute couple as they rode their motorcycle home from a Pattani hospital on Tuesday.

Pattani police chief Piyawat Chalermsri said the suspect, Aseph Jemae, is also wanted over a gun attack on a police patrol unit in Pattani’s Sai Buri district on May 10.
Ratchawut Kaewsri, 36, and Supassorn Patchiman, 28, were killed by four suspected insurgents on two motorcycles.
The assailants caught up with the couple on a road in Yaring district before the gunmen opened fire.
Piyawat said units of police, troops and Interior Ministry officials had launched a manhunt for the suspects in Pattani’s Yaring and neighbouring Panare districts.
Cooperation from house owners and schools had been sought, but so far the four suspects had eluded capture, he added.
Piyawat said the four attackers had clashed with pursuing security forces before fleeing into a forest, leaving their two motorcycles behind.
One of the bikes had been reported stolen in Pattani in 2014 while the other belonged to Aseph’s mother, he said.
Police had earlier found Aseph’s DNA on one of the motorcycles seized following the May 10 shooting. A suspect arrested for that attack also implicated Aseph.
