Central bank warns of leaked electronic banking, credit card data from gambling website

The Bank of Thailand has warned Thais who used gambling websites overseas to urgently change the passwords to their electronic banking accounts and cancel their credit cards after a data leak was reported on one of the websites.

The warning was issued by Chantavarn Sucharitakul, assistant governor of the central bank, who cited information from the Thailand Computer Emergency Response Team (ThaiCERT) and Thailand Banking Sector Computer Emergency Response (TB-CERT).
Chanthawan said the ThaiCERT and TB-CERT of the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) has found that personal financial data has been leaked from a gambling website abroad that could affect users who have provided financial data to the website for gambling. She did not name the website.
Chanthawan said the TB-CERT has informed banks to be on alert of the possible abuses of financial data of their clients.
She said bank clients, who used to gamble on foreign websites, should immediately change their passwords of their Internet banking and mobile banking accounts. If they have used credit cards on the websites, they should immediately cancel their cards and have their banks issue new ones, Chanthawan said.
