Uttama to seek Cabinet okay on reducing aircraft fuel tax

Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana said today (February 3) that his ministry would seek Cabinet approval in a meeting tomorrow to lower the excise tax on aircraft fuel, which is currently Bt4.726 per litre for domestic flights.

“This measure should help people travel more and boost the domestic tourism industry,” he said. “It will fit perfectly with the ministry’s idea of providing additional tax breaks for hotels and tourism business operators who have just invested in improving their establishments. This measure too will be presented tomorrow.”
When asked about Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak’s statement that the Finance Ministry will also propose the fourth phase of the “Eat, Shop, Spend” campaign at the meeting tomorrow, Uttama said: “This campaign will need further study and therefore will not be presented tomorrow, but I assure you that the ministry will try to make it happen in time for the Songkran Festival in April.”
Uttama also said that the “Finance Ministry would propose an extension of the deadline for filing personal income tax” – from March 31 to June 31.
“This aims to facilitate those who have to pay additional tax by allowing more time to raise money as we realise that many business operators have been affected by the outbreak of new coronavirus since the New Year,” he said.
