US states, Japan continuing lockdown measures

The US and Japan are continuing with shutdown measures, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said during his daily briefing on Saturday (May 2).

In the US, California has announced a closure of all beaches located in Orange County, after people gathered there last weekend, violating the social distancing measure.
Also, New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the underground train services in New York will be suspended from 1am to 5am from May 6. Usually, the train service runs 24 hours.
Hokkaido in Japan was shut again after a second round of Covid-19 infections. Previously, the province had opened up for the business sector, as well as for schools.
The president of the Hokkaido Medical Association said that the lockdown was eased too soon. He wants the local government to extend the lockdown until next year.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's Ministry of Health recently reported 57 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, including 32 infected domestically and 25 from foreign countries. The total infected patients in Malaysia went up to 6,002.
