EEC water reservoirs get a windfall from Cyclone Amphan

Water reservoirs in the Easterm Economic Corridor (EEC) were boosted by 1.72 million cubic metres in Chonburi province and 6.28 million cubic metres in Rayong between May 18 -22, thanks to Cyclone Amphan.

However, the water levels at several main rivers are impacted by the ongoing drought. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered water conservation for agricultural and daily use, Government Spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat said.
The Department of Groundwater Resources has been tasked with solving the problem by installing a groundwater conservation system for Chao Phraya River at 500 spots and 30 rainfall sites in Rayong and Chanthaburi.
The premier has emphasised on aid for 29 provinces that are experiencing drought and ordered the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to develop 186 groundwater pools and create another 626 pools.
The Royal Irrigation Department is constructing an irrigation facility in Khon Kaen province to open the water stream, which will help preserve water in the future.
