Six new Covid-19 cases found in state quarantine

There were six new cases of Covid-19 over a 24-hour period, all detected in state quarantine, Dr Panprapa Yongtrakul, assistant spokeswoman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said on Thursday (June 18).

Thailand has reached 24 days without a domestic case.

Of the six new cases, five male students, aged 23-26, were asymptomatic and had returned from Saudi Arabia. One 26-year-old female student, who had fever, had returned from India.

Meanwhile, one patient returned home after full recovery.

As of June 18, the total number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 3,141 (2,444 domestic cases and 204 founded in state quarantine) -- 86 are under treatment, 2,997 have recovered and been discharged, and there have been 58 deaths.

Globally, the total number of confirmed cases rose to 8.4 million, increasing by 142,000, with around 450,000 deaths. The US reported over 20,000 new cases on Wednesday. Thailand is 91st among countries with the most number of cases.

The CCSA is concerned over the situation in India and Indonesia which has more than 1,000 new cases per day.

Dr Panprapa said that as people start to live the new normal life, they need to remain cautious. She asked people to be careful, wear a mask, and keep their hands clean, especially in a crowded place, to prevent the virus spreading.
