Award-winning director-writer Chaninthorn Prasertprasart dies in suspected suicide

Award-winning TV drama director-writer Chaninthorn Prasertprasart, 59, reportedly shot himself in a suspected suicide.

On being notified of a shooting death on Sunday (June 21) at 8.30pm, Makkasan Station police in Bangkok’s Huay Kwang district rushed to a condominium in Makkasan to find the body of Chaninthorn Prasertprasart on a wheelchair with a bullet wound to his right temple. Officers reportedly found a 9mm gun on the floor and did not find any signs of fighting or ransacking.
An acquaintance of the deceased reportedly told the police that Chaninthorn had been suffering from health problems and this could have been the reason for his “suicide”. Police will talk to witnesses and relatives to find out if it was indeed a suicide.
Chaninthorn had been working for Broadcast Thai Television that produces TV dramas for Channel 3. He was the director of many hit dramas, including “Raeng Ngao”, “Jan Eay Jan Jao”, “Leuamprairak” and “Plerng Boon”, and was also a writer for “Saphai Jao”, “Than Chai Pawornruj” and “Raeng Ngao 2”. He was awarded the Nataraj Award for Best Director for “Raeng Ngao” in 2012, hosted by the Radio-Television Broadcasting Professional Federation.
